Digital Photography for Beginners 

Tuesday 15th June 2017. 10am - 1pm.

This short course offers a workshop aimed at those who have a basic digital camera and wish to know how to use their camera and get good photos without it becoming too technical. No previous photography knowledge required. 

Digital Photography for Improvers

Date to be advised 

This one day workshop is aimed at those who already have some basic digital camera skills (compact or DSLR) and wish to improve upon these to achieve good images, but without it becoming too technical. The day will consist of classroom based tuition and a practical photography session out in Guildford.

Plant & Garden Photography

Date to be advised.

A look at how to best photograph plants, flowers and gardens with tutor Mike Sleigh who was RHS Photographer at Wisley Garden 1991-2009. We will cover techniques and equipment, including macro work. There will be a short practical photography session outside (subject to weather conditions). 





Photographing London's Buildings

Date to be advised

This two-part course will be comprised of a classroom-based session at the Institute followed by a London-based ‘Photo Walk’ on the following Saturday. We will look at a selection of interesting buildings and architectural details around the City. Help will be given in how to identify suitable subjects and to take good photographs of them. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some prior knowledge, and for most cameras. Students will be asked to meet at Tower Hill for the Photo Walk – full details will be provided during the first session.


Saving your Family Archives

An introductory course on how to save your family photographs and documents.

Architecture Study Courses held at the Guildford Institute 2012 - 2016

Victorian Architecture

A look at Victorian architecture, illustrated with photographs of prime examples of the two main Victorian architectural styles - Classical and Gothic. Mention will be made of the key architects and their influence on the period. Includes a walk to look at examples in Guildford town centre.

Victorian Church Architecture & Stained Glass

A look at Victorian Church Architecture and stained glass, illustrated with photographs taken in Surrey. The main architects and artists will be mentioned with a special focus on A.W.N. Pugin and the key influence he had on the Gothic Revival. Important stained glass studios and manufacturers will also be covered. Includes a walk to look at examples in Guildford town centre.

Church Stained Glass 1820 - 1920

A look at stained glass produced during the period 1820-1920 through photographs taken mainly in local churches. Styles and changes in design over the 100 year period will be covered, together with the main manufactures, especially Clayton & Bell. Includes a visit to a Guildford church to view examples.
